WasteFuel Names Mark Dennes as Chief Executive Officer to Accelerate Global Expansion
Leadership Transition Positions Company for Next Phase of Growth
February 19, 2026
NEW YORK – WasteFuel, a leading developer of sustainable fuels projects, today announced the appointment of Mark Dennes as chief executive officer, ushering in the company's next phase of aggressive global expansion. The leadership transition positions WasteFuel to execute on a portfolio of six renewable fuel production projects with first commercial operations targeted for 2029 and represents a significant milestone in the company's evolution toward becoming a fully integrated platform operator.
Under Dennes' leadership, WasteFuel will advance its multi-continent project portfolio from development through commercial operations, growing strategic partnerships while leveraging its integrated technology platform to strengthen competitive advantages in project economics and deployment timelines.
“As WasteFuel’s flagship biomethanol project in Ankara, Turkey, progresses toward FID, and Mark’s strategic vision and financial acumen makes him the right leader to drive execution and value creation through this next phase.” David Trench, outgoing chief executive officer, remarked. “We've matured the technology, secured tier-one partners, and assembled a pipeline that addresses real market demand.”
“I am privileged to lead WasteFuel at this pivotal moment of commercial execution,” said Mark Dennes, chief executive officer of WasteFuel. “David has positioned the company to deliver one of the first large-scale waste-to-biomethanol facilities, and my focus will be on translating that flagship project into a repeatable, scalable platform that delivers attractive returns while achieving meaningful decarbonization impact.”
The maritime industry is undergoing a generational shift towards cleaner and more sustainable operations. The use of biomethanol as a marine fuel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 95%, enabling sea freight companies to expand their low-carbon shipping solutions and comply with regulations intended to reduce the industry’s emissions. With over 300 methanol-capable container ships scheduled for delivery by 2030, the industry faces a significant supply gap that WasteFuel is positioned to address through its circular waste-to-fuel model.
Partnering with local waste owners, WasteFuel’s solutions encourage the responsible and circular treatment of waste, improving local communities while mitigating landfill methane emissions and enabling a more sustainable transportation sector. WasteFuel’s projects integrate seamlessly with existing waste treatment and recycling operations and can handle an entire city’s organic waste generation.
As CEO, Mark Dennes will lead WasteFuel's commercial strategy, overseeing project development, financing, and operations across the platform. His immediate priorities include driving the flagship Ankara facility toward a financial investment decision (FID), expanding strategic partnerships with shipping lines and fuel distributors, and replicating the Ankara model across WasteFuel's development pipeline.
Mark Dennes brings over thirty years of investment and finance experience across energy, infrastructure, and real assets, with a proven track record deploying over $30 billion of debt, $1 billion of equity, and more than $100 million of tax equity into energy platforms worldwide. His expertise spans private equity, venture capital, project finance, and investment banking, with particular depth in structuring and executing complex energy transactions from both sponsor-side and lender-side perspectives.
